About Us

Our Company History

Studio Arts was established 1972 in 1972 by Ann Dodgson initially started as a small business selling a basic range of art materials, such as paint and brushes, from the converted front room of her house.

Later that year she opened a high street shop in Lancaster, which coincided with the merger of her paint supplier Jim Daler with paper and board manufacturers Rowney. This merger enabled Studio Arts to widen it's range of quality products to meet the needs of university students and architects as well as members of the arts, graphics and design community.
Our Company History
Daler-Rowney remains one of the main suppliers to this day, alongside Winsor & Newton, Design Objectives, English paint brush specialists Pro Arte and many other international suppliers such as Rotring, Staedtler, Conte, Maimeri, Pebeo etc.

Further diversity came with the opening of Studio Arts Gallery to display and sell the works of local artists, before moving on to publishing limited edition prints and greeting cards.

Ann Dodgson retired in the early 1990s, but Studio Arts remained a family business and its continued growth led to it becoming a Limited Company in April 1993.

In more recent times Studio Arts has gone online with it's own website which is full of useful information and resources for the arts community together with this site to sell discount art materials securely online.
